Introduction to the module
Ethical issues and dilemmas concern every human action, and are particularly important in activities, such as business, which significantly shape both individual lives and the wellbeing of the society. Ethics are important for ensuring appropriate individual conduct, for building organizational culture, but also for forming and maintaining more general social contract, and thus for defining the role of business in society.
This course will enable student to learn different perspectives on business ethics, from utilitarian through emancipatory to critical, and the consequences of adopting particular ethical stances. The main goal of this course is to provide tools necessary to help students understand the important dimensions of business ethics, and to act as responsible workers, managers, and citizens in the rapidly changing society. It aims to stimulate reflection and appreciation of the complexity of moral and ethical issues facing individuals, organizations, and societies, and to help students in the lifelong goal of building and maintaining organizations which are good to work in, but which are also good for the society.
