Introduction au module

The aim of this module is to provide learners with a comprehensive understanding of the purchasing process. The different stages of the purchasing process are presented and illustrated with concrete examples so that learners understand not only the concepts but also the practical application of purchasing.

• Gather a company’s procurement needs
• Develop a call for tenders
• Analyze bids, negotiate, and select suppliers
• Manage supplier relationships

Contenu : structure du module et agenda

Session 1:
General overview of the purchasing function, including the definition and role of procurement within a company. Key procurement activities, types of purchases, major procurement challenges, the main stages of the procurement process, supplier selection criteria, tools used to manage purchases, and emerging issues in procurement (e.g., digitalization, social and environmental responsibility, crisis management).
Session 2:
Procurement training: From needs assessment to execution. Presentation of tools and methods to define needs effectively for efficient procurement. Introduction to tools used to write a call for tenders, methods for integrating legal considerations into a contract, and tools and methods for supplier offer evaluation and selection.
Session 3:
Practical case study: Procurement of an information system to support a digital marketing activity. Activities include supplier sourcing, drafting of call for tenders and specifications, bid analysis, and supplier selection.
Session 4:
Contract negotiation: Presentation of negotiation actors, key steps in the negotiation process, challenges, and risks involved in negotiations.
Session 5:
Course wrap-up: Group project presentation on a case study involving the procurement of IT equipment—from supplier sourcing to contract signing—including specification drafting, bid analysis, negotiation, supplier selection, and contract finalization. Also includes a multiple-choice quiz reviewing all procurement concepts covered during the previous sessions.
A knowledge check is performed at the beginning of each session on the key points covered in the previous session.
During each session, the instructor encourages learners to conduct research using various tools such as the Internet, artificial intelligence, and provided documentation.
The final session assesses the acquisition of knowledge and the ability to apply expected procurement practices.

Buyers are involved during the needs definition phase, particularly to identify innovative products and/or services, and they verify—or even require—evidence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies from potential suppliers.

Méthode pédagogique

This module is delivered in real time, allowing direct interaction between learners and the instructor.
In-person instruction :
The course includes both group and individual work.
It is delivered using PowerPoint presentations, discussions, practical exercises, case studies, and online resources.

Système de notation et modalités de rattrapage

The final grade (100%) is distributed as follows:
• 50% based on the final multiple-choice quiz (MCQ) conducted during the last session
• 30% based on the group project (submitted by email and presented during the final session)
• 20% based on oral participation throughout the module sessions
In case of failure or absence, a make-up assessment in the form of an individual case study will represent 100% of the final grade, thus replacing all previously earned scores.

Règlement du module

Professor-Student Communication
● The professor will contact the students through their school email address (IMT-BS/TSP) and the Moodle portal. No communication via personal email addresses will take place. It is the student responsibility to regularly check their IMT-BS/TSP mailbox.
● Students can communicate with the professor by emailing him/her to his institutional address.
Students with accommodation needs
If a student has a disability that will prevent from completing the described work or require any kind of accommodation, he may inform the program director (with supporting documents) as soon as possible. Also, students are encouraged to discuss it with the professor.
Class behavior
● Out of courtesy for the professor and classmates, all mobile phones, electronic games or other devices that generate sound should be turned off during class.
● Students should avoid disruptive and disrespectful behavior such as: arriving late, leaving early, careless behavior (e.g. sleeping, reading a non-course material, using vulgar language, over-speaking, eating, drinking, etc.). A warning may be given on the first infraction of these rules. Repeated violators will be penalized and may face expulsion from the class and/or other disciplinary proceedings.
● The tolerated delay is 5 minutes. Attendance will be declared on Moodle during these 5 minutes via a QR code provided by the teacher at each course start.
● Student should arrive on time for exams and other assessments. No one will be allowed to enter the classroom once the first person has finished the exam and left the room. There is absolutely no exception to this rule. No student can continue to take an exam once the time is up. No student may leave the room during an examination unless he / she has finished and handed over all the documents.
● In the case of remote learning, the student must keep his camera on unless instructed otherwise by the professor.
Honor code
IMT-BS is committed to a policy of honesty in the academic community. Conduct that compromises this policy may result in academic and / or disciplinary sanctions. Students must refrain from cheating, lying, plagiarizing and stealing. This includes completing your own original work and giving credit to any other person whose ideas and printed materials (including those from the Internet) are paraphrased or quoted directly. Any student who violates or helps another student violate academic behavior standards will be penalized according to IMT-BS rules.
