Introduction to the module
This French language and culture course is aimed at international learners who want to develop
their ability to communicate in French and open up to French culture: in short, it aims to give
learners the linguistic and cultural keys they need to make the most of their mobility experience at
our school.
French courses are organized by level. Below you will find an overall description of skills and
general know-how to acquire; they are described in the Common European Framework Reference

Pedagogical methods
Les cours reposent sur l’approche communicative et la perspective actionnelle préconisées par le CECR.
Les étudiants sont amenés à réaliser des projets, des tâches, des activités et des exercices en lien avec les objectifs à atteindre. L’approche interculturelle fait également partie intégrante des cours. De plus, les apprenants sont accompagnés pour développer leur autonomie d’apprentissage.
Pour une progression plus efficace, les activités en classe sont complétées par un investissement et un travail personnel conséquents.
Le professeur postera chaque semaine diverses ressources sur Moodle et donnera des devoirs à faire en autonomie entre chaque séance.
These courses are based on the communicative approach and action-oriented perspective recommended by the CEFR. Students are led to carry out projects, tasks, activities and exercises related to the objectives to be achieved, both individually and collectively. The intercultural approach is also an integral part of the courses. In addition, learners are accompanied to develop their learning autonomy.
For a more effective progression, classroom activities are complemented by a significant investment and personal work.
The teacher will post a weekly course material on Moodle and give you homework to do
independently between each session. These homework assignments will be posted on your Moodle space.
Evaluation and grading system and catch up exams
Assessment aims to determine what has been acquired, what is in the process of being acquired
and what has not been acquired.
The final grade is based on 3 criteria:
Text zone -Continuous assessment CC (1/3 of the final grade)
-Participation and presence PP (1/3 of the final grade)
-The final exam CF (1/3 of the final grade)
CC grade: at least 3 assignments will be graded, the forms and instructions of which will be
specified by the teacher, who will clearly announce these assessment methods.
PP grade: 10 points are awarded for attendance (2 points withdrawn for each unjustified absence),
10 points for class participation.
Improving LV skills requires students to participate in all learning activities. Regular class
attendance is therefore essential. Any unjustified absence will result in a loss of 2 points on the PP
grade.
Any absence must be justified to your teacher, to the course coordinator and to your
administration. Unjustified absences will be penalized.
In the case of absence, it is the student's responsibility to make up the work missed. Justified
absences do not exempt students from completing assignments and tests during the missed session!
Active participation in the tandem program (logbook, attendance at advisory meetings and final presentation) will earn the student 2 bonus points in the final grade of the corresponding language course.
There is NO DIRECT RELATION between a student's CC/CF/PP grade and their CEFR level.
An unjustified absence from CF1 by the central school department will result in a grade of 0/20.
In the event of failure (final grade below 10) at CF1, a Final Exam 2 (CF2) is organized.
The CF2 grade replaces the final grade and, if your absence from the CF1 is not justified, your final grade is limited to 10/20.

Module Policies
Professor-Student Communication
● The professor will contact the students through their school email address (IMT-BS/TSP) and the Moodle portal. No communication via personal email addresses will take place. It is the student responsibility to regularly check their IMT-BS/TSP mailbox.
● Students can communicate with the professor by emailing him/her to his institutional address. If necessary, it is possible to meet the professor in his office during office-hours or by appointment.
Students with accommodation needs
If a student has a disability that will prevent from completing the described work or require any kind of accommodation, he may inform the program director (with supporting documents) as soon as possible. Also, students are encouraged to discuss it with the professor.
Class behavior
● Out of courtesy for the professor and classmates, all mobile phones, electronic games or other devices that generate sound should be turned off during class.
● Students should avoid disruptive and disrespectful behavior such as: arriving late, leaving early, careless behavior (e.g. sleeping, reading a non-course material, using vulgar language, over-speaking, eating, drinking, etc.). A warning may be given on the first infraction of these rules. Repeated violators will be penalized and may face expulsion from the class and/or other disciplinary proceedings.
● The tolerated delay is 5 minutes. Attendance will be declared on Moodle during these 5 minutes via a QR code provided by the teacher at each course start.
● Student should arrive on time for exams and other assessments. No one will be allowed to enter the classroom once the first person has finished the exam and left the room. There is absolutely no exception to this rule. No student can continue to take an exam once the time is up. No student may leave the room during an examination unless he / she has finished and handed over all the documents.
● In the case of remote learning, the student must keep his camera on unless instructed otherwise by the professor.
Honor code
IMT-BS is committed to a policy of honesty in the academic community. Conduct that compromises this policy may result in academic and / or disciplinary sanctions. Students must refrain from cheating, lying, plagiarizing and stealing. This includes completing your own original work and giving credit to any other person whose ideas and printed materials (including those from the Internet) are paraphrased or quoted directly. Any student who violates or helps another student violate academic behavior standards will be penalized according to IMT-BS rules.
