Introduction to the module

This course explores the intersection of digital technologies and environmental sustainability. The main aim of the course is to examine the environmental impact of digital technologies, as well as how digital technologies can help organizations achieve their environmental sustainability goals. The module provides both a critical theoretical framework and practical case studies on how digital transformation can contribute to or compromise environmental sustainability outcomes and human well-being.

The course contributes to SDG 4 by ensuring that students acquire the knowledge and skills around how to leverage digital technologies to promote sustainable development.
The course contributes to SDG 12 by enhancing knowledge on how to leverage digital technologies to reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse, as well as on how organizations can adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle using IT and IS.
The course contributes to SDG 13 by raising awareness on how environmentally friendly IS/IT can lead to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and impact reduction.
