MUFF QUA 3009
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- master basic mathematciacl tools (functions, matrices, series)
- master basic probability concepts
- master basic statistical concepts (data description; usual laws)
Acquire knowledge in the functional area of mathematics and statistics as a foundation for introductory courses in finance, marketing and quantitative methods.
PG1-1: Develop fundamental skills
Mathematics section : 50 %
Continuous assessment (homework, class quizzes: 30%); final exam: 20%
Probabilities and statistics section : 50 %
Continuous assessment and final exam
The course is designed for a group of students with heterogeneous levels. It starts with an individual check-up to highlight lacks of knowledge in mathematics and statistics. Regarding mathematics, students have to reach the required level and they do it at their own pace using on-line resources. Assignments are proposed on a regular basis. Regarding probabilities and statistics, the course is based on case studies and exercises and emphasises understanding and operational procedures rather than formal mathematical proofs.
For the "mathematics" chapters, on-line resources are available for students without basic knowledge and individual support is available if needed.
For the "probability and statistics" chapters, additional lectures are organiszed if needed. Students attend these lectures on a valuntary basis.
