Under the guidance of an experienced teacher and speaker of English, students will strive to individually develop their writing and public speaking abilities.
The objective of this course is for students to be able to communicate confidently and effectively in English in their future careers.
They will acquire professional but not technical vocabulary and expressions, knowledge of basic motivational factors, introductory knowledge of how a team works and discussion techniques.
They will be able to:
make an effective oral presentation
attend an interview with increased confidence
write a job application letter or email
write a business letter or e-mail
participate in a meeting or straightforward negotiation
solve a team-working problem
communicate effectively on the phone
understand spoken English more easily
read and summarize an article on a professional topic
This course introduces students to the use of the English language in a professional situation. The course will first cover the company as a whole, before focusing on more specific themes such as recruitment, motivation, team-working, negotiating or meetings.
The purpose of this course is for students to learn to communicate effectively in a business situation. By the end of this course students should feel more at ease in varying work contexts, they will be able to participate in group discussions, meetings and negotiations with increased confidence.
Students should expect a high degree of interaction. Learning to communicate in a business context means active whole class, group and one to one discussions.

Grading will be on a scale of 0 to 20. 50% CC and 50% CF1
Validating the tandem course will add 2 bonus points in the continuous assesment grade of the corresponding language course.

The class activities include:
- the discussion of articles prepared at home, listening comprehension, language practice in the form of vocabulary and grammar exercises, one to one or group discussions, role plays and oral presentations.
Homework is given each week and consists in reading, vocabulary practice, writing and the preparation of the oral presentation. All the written homework is marked and counts toward the final continuous assessment grade.
In case of absence the student is still required to do the work. The only exemption is for illness certified by a doctor.
During class I do not tolerate gum-chewing, reading of newspapers, magazines or other non-class material, the use of mobile phones, eating or drinking.
