Introduction to the course

A tandem is an encounter between two students who share their language, culture, and learning. Two students with different mother tongues agree to meet each other regularly and to help each other in their learning of the partner's mother tongue; the sessions are shared in a balanced way between the two languages. This program is open to any student on a volunteer basis, and upon registration.

- Learn about a culture, a country, a different way of life, different habits and values,
- Exchange with a student from another language / culture,
- Develop autonomy in language learning, and "learning how to learn".

Evaluation

The students will prepare their meetings with their partner and self-assess at the end of each session writing in a tandem diary. At the end of the semester, they will make an oral presentation with their partner on a topic of their choice. Validating the tandem course will add 2 bonus points in the continuous assesment grade of the corresponding language course.

Pedagogical methods

Tandem takes a self-learning approach: the two partners are autonomous since they choose:
- the pace and place of their meetings;
- the content of their exchanges;
- the correction mode that suits them.
The students are guided in their work by teachers-referents during three interviews per semester. As such, teachers help students define their goals, the schedule, the content of the exchanges, evaluate themselves, and correct their partner.

Class schedule

The two partners themselves choose the pace and place of their encounters; the content of their exchanges; and the correction mode that suits them. Students participate in three counseling sessions with their teacher-in-charge.
