Introduction to the module
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a more essential component of digital marketing than ever, given the dominance of the online world. Businesses must master the art of maintaining engaging online conversations with their customers, as well as designing their websites accordingly. It is not just about driving traffic, but about generating high-quality interactions and actions. This is achieved when the website aligns with the company's business objectives. Reaching these goals requires careful and constant monitoring of business metrics using various web analytics tools. Google Analytics and its companion, Google Search Console, are the flagship products in web analytics, though complementary tools also provide their own share of valuable insights.
This seminar aims to raise students' awareness of the importance of SEO and web analytics for modern marketers. We combine SEO and web analytics to clearly demonstrate how closely the two are interlinked and how they work together. The course is equally divided between theoretical concepts and practical work, focusing primarily on Google Analytics.

Sustainable Development Goals
ODD 8 & 9
Justification for SDG 8.2 – Economic Productivity through Diversification and Innovation
(Session: Presentation of IMT-BS incubator startups)
The presentation of IMT-BS incubator startups sharing their web data concretely illustrates how web analytics boosts productivity for innovative SMEs.
Target 8.2 aims to increase economic productivity through diversification, technological modernization, and innovation. Students analyze real cases where SEO and data analytics convert web traffic into tangible business value (conversions, ROI).
This develops practices that foster sustainable startup growth by aligning digital tools with business objectives for enhanced competitiveness.
This focus supports SDG 8 by demonstrating how web technologies create economic opportunities for innovative young firms.
Justification for SDG 9.c – Access to ICT and Digital Capacity Building
(Session: Applications of Google Analytics and Search Console)
The hands-on application of Google Analytics and Search Console steps directly addresses Target 9.c, which seeks to universalize access to information and communication technologies (ICT).
Students learn to collect, analyze, and optimize web data for strategic decisions, bridging the digital divide for businesses.
These free tools democratize advanced analytics, enabling all organizations (startups or SMEs) to modernize marketing processes without financial barriers.
SDG 9.c is relevant as it emphasizes inclusive ICT adoption, central to the digital transformation taught here.
Justification for SDG 9 – Industrial Innovation and Resilient Infrastructure
(Sessions: Data Collection Learning and Startup Pitches)
Learning data collection for case analysis, followed by pitches, embodies SDG 9 holistically by fostering innovation through robust digital infrastructure.
Practical work on web data collection and analysis (SDG 9.5: scientific research; SDG 9.4: industrial modernization) transforms websites into high-performing strategic assets.
The final pitch completes the cycle by applying these skills to real cases, strengthening startup innovation ecosystems.
SDG 9 justifies this choice by linking SEO/web analytics to sustainable industrialization, where digital data becomes a competitive infrastructure lever.
