Describe the uses and limitations of financial statements
Evaluate and interpret financial performance using the tools of ratio analysis
Describe fundamental principles of capital budgeting
Compare and select among projects based on economic decision criteria
Explain the limitations of the decision criteria used in project evaluation
Develop cash flow projections and prepare pro-forma financial statements for project evaluation
Describe the role of uncertainty and risk on project evaluation
Acquire fundamental notions of financial accounting and finance and appreciate their impact on organizations. Participants will be able to analyze financial statements and acquire the fundamental skills to develop their own capital budgeting process for financial decision-making.
Key concepts will be illustrated through exercises. Some of these exercises may be turned in for grading. Participants will also carry out a financial statement analysis on a company of their choice and present their results.
The lectures introduce key concepts and methods and reinforce them through in-class exercises and discussions. Selected case studies will highlight the application and impact of these concepts/methods in the corporate world. Students will also have the opportunity to work on a company of their choice to carry out financial statement analysis and share their results in a group presentation.
