During the first half of the lesson we will concentrate on improving students writing skills to prepare them for academic studies in an English-speaking country. In the second part of the lesson we will concentrate on public speaking abilities. We will focus on the theme of Cultural Differences in International Business. We will debate to define what is ‘culture’. We will study cultural differences around the world and look more closely at individual case studies via articles, audio and video extracts and problem-solving exercises.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:

• Write structured compositions
• Be aware of common cultural differences and how to avoid problems
• Be able to express an opinion on a particular topic
• Be comfortable speaking English in public
• Be familiar with different accents
• Increase knowledge of basic vocabulary to include business terms and phrases


The teacher will alternately introduce techniques and supervise the development of the student’s writing and presenting skills in parallel with the study of Cultural Differences in International Business. The aim is to increase oral comprehension skills with exposure to native English speakers, written comprehension skills with business related articles and speaking skills with regular speaking activities.

Attentes du cours

The classroom experience will focus on achieving high-level written and oral communication. To achieve this goal, students will work through a rigorous drafting & editing process both of their written work & oral presentations. Emphasis will be placed on increasing the students working vocabulary in English. Students will be expected to work on their English outside the classroom – learning vocabulary, revising and reviewing classroom notes, regularly producing pieces of work for correction and using blended learning for grammar acquisition. They will be required to prepare two high-quality Powerpoint presentations, which will be given in class. All students need access to a computer.

Validating the Tandem course will add 2 bonus points in the continuous assessment grade of the corresponding language course.
