This course involves a review of the key issues facing contemporary society with a focus on environmental challenges and an analysis of the impact of technology on social relations.
Students can expect to learn: to evaluate complex issues independently and give their opinions; add to their knowledge of environmental and technological concerns and solutions; formulate opinions on and evaluate arguments related to these issues; appreciate the ethical and transformational impact of technological innovation.
To present an opportunity for students to explore the interrelated issues of environment and technology on our society. We will focus on the current state of affairs, potential solutions and expectations for future evolution, paying particular attention to: Energy, Communication Media, life in cities and the diverse habitats to be found on Earth. We will examine the key components required for a Green Energy Transition and the future of Nuclear Energy. The functioning and implementation of Smart Green Cities will also be a topic of study. Students will have a choice of different topics that they may study on their own and present during the class both orally and in writing.
Students are expected to be open to new ideas and to be capable of assimilating them as part of an ongoing process to improve their writing and presenting skills in English. There will be a minimum of three (3) written activities and two (2) oral reports. The level of interaction is similar to that encountered in professional life.
•50% Continuous assessment (three (3) written activities and two (2) oral reports; participation in discussions)
•50% Final examination
Validating the Tandem course will add 2 bonus points in the continuous assessment grade of the corresponding language course.

The classroom experience will focus on achieving high-level written and oral communication. To achieve this goal, students will work through a rigorous drafting & editing process both of their written work & oral presentations. Specific coaching will be provided to help students meet the goals they set themselves during the semester.
