Introduction

This English Debating and Presenting course will offer a forum for debating in English using various formats for a wide range of subjects: there will be an actual debate or formal presentation of some kind every week.

Acquis d'apprentissage

In addition to gaining practical public speaking experiences, students can expect to learn: To write well reasoned, inspirational speeches and academic essays; assess complex topics and develop opinions; learn to defend and support an argument; utilize rhetorical devices; and broaden their cultural knowledge. All opinions are welcome.

Contenu

“The art of communication is the language of leadership.” In your future career, would you like to have more opportunity for advancement? If so, then public speaking and professional communication is the key to opportunity. During this seminar, we will focus on building the soft skills that are so important for a position in management. By using structured debating, we will develop your ability to present and defend coherent, logical arguments. Group problem solving tasks will involve Think Tank projects that allow you to flex your creativity. And finally, the important skills of conflict resolution and negotiation will be acquired through realistic professional scenarios resolved through group role-playing. In addition, students will learn the principles of academic writing.

Attentes du cours

Students are expected to open-minded and bold in order to challenge their comfort barriers when speaking English in class. There will be a minimum of three (3) academic writing essays and three (3) oral presentations/debates. A high level of participation and interaction is expected.

B1: The coure of ROBIC

Evaluation

• 50% Continuous assessment (three (3) written academic essays and three (3) oral presentations/debates; participation in discussions)
• 50% Final examination
Validating the Tandem course will add 2 bonus points in the continuous assessment grade of the corresponding language course.
Chaque absence injustifiée entrainera 1 point en moins sur votre note de CC.
