At the end of this course, students are expected to
* characterize structured finance transactions and explain its role in financing both financial and non-financial corporations
* define credit risk and describe the approaches to estimate credit risk
* characterize the main features of credit derivatives, their cash flows and explain the principles of credit derivative pricing
* describe the securitization process and assess the cash flow structure of securitized assets
* Discuss the role of structured finance/credit derivatives in the 2008 financial crisis
* Define leveraged buyouts (LBOs) and describe the financing of LBOs

Contenu

PGE-1 : Acquire fundamental notions
PGE-4 : Demonstrate effective communication skills in a professional context
PGE-5 : Ability to work in English/Ability to communicate in a foreign language
* Acquire the fundamental notions of credit risk, credit risk management and structured finance products

Basic notions of stock and bond markets and pricing as well as options and derivatives

Approches pédagogiques

The course rests on lectures and in-class exercises to introduce fundamental notions and to allow the students to put the concepts to work. Case studies and movies are used to expand on financial products and on the link between the structured finance markets and the financial crisis of 2007/2008. Students are also expected to analyze and present in group an LBO transaction.
